Mr. Tapscott is Chairman of the Alliance for Converging Technologies,
a think tank that is currently conducting a multi-million dollar investigation
into the impact of the information highway and the new media on business,
government and society. The program is funded by some of the world's
largest suppliers and users of emerging technologies.
Mr. Tapscott is also President of New Paradigm Learning Corporation. He is described by Vice President Al Gore as one of the world's leading cyber-gurus and by the influential Washington Technology Report as one of the most influential media authorities since Marshall McLuhan. He is an internationally sought consultant, speaker and authority on information technology in business and consults to the world's largest corporations. His clients include the top executives of many Fortune 100 companies and other leading enterprises around the world. Mr. Tapscott's travels take him around the world, where he presents to government and business leaders on information technology policy and strategy. In Canada in 1992 he chaired the first information highway advisory council ever established -setting a model emulated by many countries. His latest book, GROWING UP DIGITAL: The Rise of the Net Generation, released October 21, 1997 by McGraw-Hill, New York, is in its 4th printing in less than three weeks. It has been "recommended for all libraries", by the Library Journal. TIME magazine Senior Editor, Joshua Cooper Ramo, describes GROWING UP DIGITAL as a "compellingly written look at the generation that will make it all happen". Mr. Tapscott has authored five widely read books on the application of technology in business.THE DIGITAL ECONOMY: Promise and Peril in the Age of Networked Intelligence (McGraw-Hill, New York, 1996) became an international best-seller within one month of its release appearing on a number of best-sellers lists, including The New York Times business book list. It had a run of seven months on the BusinessWeek best-sellers list. BusinessWeek also named THE DIGITAL ECONOMY as a top-selling business book for 1996. It has been translated into seven languages. Mr. Tapscott is also the co-author of PARADIGM SHIFT: The New Promise of Information Technology (McGraw-Hill, New York, 1992) which is now in its eleventh printing and has been translated into seven languages. He co-authored with Ann Cavoukian the recently released book WHO KNOWS: Safeguarding Your Privacy in a Networked World (Random House, Toronto, 1995) Mr. Tapscott is highly acclaimed for thought leadership and contribution to the community. In the past year alone, he has received a number of awards. The New York-based magazine CommunicationsWeek selected him as one of the 10 Visionaries of 1996. He was granted the 1996 Professional Achievement Award by the Canadian Information Processing Society presented for his "integrity, expertise and outstanding achievements." Mr. Tapscott was also selected to be a judge for and presenter of the National Information Infrastructure Awards in New York City. He also served as a nominator for the 1996 Smithsonian Institute awards for achievements in technology. He has been a Forum Fellow at the Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland for the past two years. Mr. Tapscott is also the co-editor of Blueprint to the Digital Economy (McGraw-Hill, Spring 1998), an anthology which contains chapters written by a cross section of leaders of the digital revolution, including Vinton Cerf (MCI and founder of the Internet), John Seely Brown (Xerox PARC), James Moore (Author, The Death of Competition) and Michael Nelson (Director of Technology Policy at the Federal Communications Commission and former special advisor to President Clinton and Vice-President Gore at the White House). Don is deeply committed to the issue of mental health and is a member of the Board of Trustees at the Clarke Institute of Psychiatry. Don is also the Chair of the Trent University capital fundraising compaign. Mr. Tapscott holds a B.Sc. in Psychology and Statistics and an M.Ed. specializing in Research Methodology. |
